This post is a little overdue and a little long, but there are pictures at the end. Let me caution you, you might be jealous while reading it...
My mom and I went to an auction one morning, checking out the loot and scoping the crowd. We didn't intend to stick around because we figured it would be low-key since it was on a random day for an auction. (I won't say which day....can't give away if I was playing hookie!) First thing we noticed was the small crowd of non-locals. This is good for folks like us--Sarah and I once left an auction when the wife of the South's oldest store showed up...not a good sign for bargain hunters!
Anyway, Momma and I were happy to see the low turnout, but not interested in staying all day, so we scoped the floor and found a chair that was nice and worth bidding on. After getting it to the auctioneer, Momma got a little nervous when I stood back and said nothing. She didn't trust me! I had learned from Scott and you should always WAIT and then bid. It paid off--I got a nice desk chair for $10!!! (We need to repair the legs because Scott sat in it and almost fell out but that's okay--it was 10 bucks).
We were proud of our good morning splurge, so we left. But after a mother-daughter day of lunch and errands, we decided to check it out again. Our curiosity got the best of us (and boy am I glad that it did). When we returned, we noticed 99% of the items had been sold, but they had just gotten to the last little corner. A little patience and they auctioned off the opportunity to choose which headboard the highest bidder wanted to take home. Make sense? It didn't to me either but before I could question it, I had "WON" aka outbid the gal I was in a bidding war with!! Did I need to bid? No. Do we even have a KING bed? No...but the excitement got to me. So, I WON a KING sleigh headboard for $26.00. Can you believe it?!?!
As I was blushing and wondering to myself (and aloud to Momma) what Scott would say when I came home with a KING headboard, yet no KING bed, the lady next to me grabbed her husband and insisted that he talk with me. Come to find out, he had just bought TWO king mattresses and box springs sets. He only needed one, so he sold me his second set for $45.00. WHAT?!?! Oh, and he threw in the frame too. WOW!
So, now I'm laughing because for about $70.00, I now have a KING bed! Not a bad day. It came time to check out/settle up, and to kill the time, they offered a door prize. No one was really concerned about the drawing until they noticed that I drew MY OWN NAME!!! Yes, I randomly (I swear!) drew my name from the box. ARE YOU KIDDING ME??!?! (Momma wanted us to go to Tunica and play the table!). What did I win this time, you ask? A %50.00 credit towards my purchase....CAN YOU BELIEVE IT?!? I think I might have squealed with delight!
So, our mother-daughter morning resulted in a KING headboard, mattress, box spring, frame and desk chair for...drum rolls please...$31.00!!!
Oh, and the next stop was Wal-Mart for bedding, which cost more than the bed! hahaha
This is our bedroom during and after the set-up. I ended up having to buy a new frame because apparently the few parts that were missing (which is why the frame was auctioned in the first place) were pretty important. Oh well.
